Former CJ David Maraga hosts Linda Mwananchi leaders Godfrey Osotsi, Irungu Kang'ata/X
Former Chief Justice David Maraga on Thursday hosted Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisii ahead of the Linda Mwananchi movement's public engagement rallies in Kisii and Nyamira.
Maraga shared details of the meeting on his social media platforms, disclosing the discussions were part of a broader push to unite leaders behind constitutional governance and economic reforms.
"I was pleased to host Governor Kangata and Senator Osotsi in Kisii ahead of the Linda Mwananchi events in Kisii and Nyamira tomorrow. All leaders who believe in the liberation - Ukombozi - of Kenya must come together to RESET the country to Constitutionalism, Rule of Law and Economic Opportunity for all," Maraga posted.
The meeting took place ahead of a series of Linda Mwananchi public engagement forums scheduled across the two counties in Nyanza region on Friday.
According to the organisers, the leaders are expected to make several stops, including Monarch Mosocho, Keumbu, Keroka and a major rally in Kisii town, where they are expected to address residents.
The meeting also comes at a time when Maraga has increasingly been seen engaging leaders from different political formations in what observers view as efforts to build a broader opposition alliance before the 2027 general elections.
Kang'ata recently announced that he had joined the Linda Mwananchi movement, adding to the list of political leaders associating themselves with the platform.
Maraga, who leads the United Green Movement (UGM), has also been working closely with leaders linked to the movement, further reinforcing perceptions of growing political cooperation.
Thursday's meeting follows another high-profile engagement last month between Maraga and Jubilee Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang'i, which was similarly framed as part of ongoing consultations to strengthen opposition unity.
At the time, Maraga said the discussions with Matiang'i formed part of a wider initiative bringing together leaders seeking to establish a united political front.
"Fred Matiang'i and I held talks as part of ongoing consultations with other opposition leaders to enhance opposition unity with the hope of building a broad coalition committed to transforming Kenya," Maraga said.
The consultations have been taking place alongside other meetings involving leaders aligned to the Linda Mwananchi movement.
On June 16, several opposition figures associated with the movement attended a national dialogue convened by Maraga at Ufungamano House in Nairobi.
Among those present were Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo, all of whom have been active in the Linda Mwananchi campaign.
The continued engagements suggest increasing coordination between Maraga and leaders associated with the movement as opposition figures seek political common ground.
