
Police in Kangundo, Machakos County, are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man whose body was found in a dry well several days after he was reported missing.
The deceased, identified as John Kyulu Kioko, was reported missing after he disappeared on June 28, 2026.
According to police, his father discovered his son's body on Wednesday inside a 40-foot-deep dry well within their homestead in Masewani Village, Kangundo Township Location.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed and documented the scene before the partially decomposed body was retrieved with the assistance of the Machakos County Fire Brigade.
The body was taken to Patjud Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Elsewhere, police recovered the body of a 36-year-old man who had been reported missing several days earlier in Kakamega County.
According to police, the partially decomposed body was found floating in River Yala near Iguhu Bridge in Ivonda Sub-location at about 4 pm on June 30, 2026.
Police visited the scene and retrieved the body, which was identified as Douglas Machisu Malimu.
Police said the deceased had been reported missing from his home on June 26, 2026, at Savane Police Station.
His body was identified by his father, who told investigators that his son had a history of mental health challenges.
A preliminary examination revealed no visible physical injuries.
The body was moved to the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death. Police are continuing with investigations.
In Bungoma County, police have launched investigations into the murder of an unidentified woman whose body was found in a maize plantation in Kimilili Sub-County.
The body was discovered on Wednesday after a village elder alerted police in Musina Village.
Police visited the scene and found the body lying face down about 100 metres inside a maize plantation from the main murram road.
Police observed visible stab wounds on the woman's chin and signs of strangulation on her neck.
Investigators also noted there were no signs of a struggle at the scene and formed the preliminary view that the body may have been dumped there after the killing occurred elsewhere.
Initial investigations also suggest the woman may have been killed a day earlier because the body was not fresh when it was discovered.
Crime scene investigators documented the scene before the body, which had no identification documents, was moved to Kimilili Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder and have appealed for information that may help identify the deceased and those responsible.
