The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA)/FILEMotorists using Mombasa Road and the Nairobi Expressway should expect traffic disruptions this weekend after the Kenya National Highways Authority announced a temporary closure of sections of the busy transport corridor.
KeNHA said a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8) and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors will be closed for 24 hours from 10 pm on Saturday, June 13, to 10 pm on Sunday, June 14.
The authority said the closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of fabricated beams for the Airtel Footbridge across the Nairobi Expressway carriageway.
"KeNHA wishes to notify the public that a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8), and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors will be closed from Saturday, June 13, 2026, to Sunday, June 14, 2026, for 24 hours from 10.00 pm," the notice stated.
According to the road agency, the works are part of ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety along the corridor through the construction of the Airtel Footbridge.
KeNHA has advised motorists to follow the designated traffic management plan during the closure period and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed to direct traffic.
The authority urged road users to plan their journeys and expect delays as traffic is diverted to alternative routes during the installation works.
The Nairobi Expressway and Mombasa Road are among the busiest transport corridors in the country.
The Road serves thousands of motorists daily travelling between Nairobi's central business district, the industrial area, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and surrounding suburbs.
KeNHA is a State corporation established under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, operating under the Ministry of Roads and Transport. It is responsible for the development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of national trunk roads—classified as S, A, and B roads—which link key cities, ports, border points, and strategic economic hubs across Kenya.
The Authority also oversees highway planning, design, and supervision, ensures road quality and safety, manages road assets, and enforces the protection of road reserves.
KeNHA works with government agencies, contractors, and development partners to deliver major infrastructure projects aligned with Kenya’s Vision 2030 goals.
