Kenya Red Cross has received a humanitarian aid consignment from the Government of Slovakia as Kenya continues to face the effects of flooding and extreme weather events affecting communities in different parts of the country.
The consignment, delivered through the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation (SlovakAid), arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday evening during the official visit of Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanár to Kenya.
According to Slovakia’s TASR news agency, the assistance is part of Slovakia’s response to the worsening humanitarian situation in Kenya caused by widespread flooding and extreme weather events.
The donation included medical rescue trauma bags and foldable camping beds, which the Kenya Red Cross is expected to distribute to communities affected by the disasters.
The handover ceremony was attended by Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano, Slovak Ambassador to Kenya Maroš Mitrík and officials from the Kenya Red Cross.
The supplies were officially received by Kenya Red Cross Deputy Secretary General for Programmes Joe Mbalu on behalf of the organisation.
Speaking during the handover, Blanár commended the Kenya Red Cross for its humanitarian work and commitment to supporting vulnerable communities across the country.
“It is precisely in times when countries face the consequences of natural disasters and humanitarian crises that the importance of solidarity and reliable partnerships becomes most evident,” Blanár said.
“Slovakia is extending a helping hand where it’s needed most, this time in Kenya, one of the programme countries of Slovak development cooperation,” he added.
Blanár handed over the assistance to representatives of the Kenya Red Cross, which TASR described as one of the Kenyan government’s main partners in addressing the consequences of natural disasters and providing aid to affected communities.
Receiving the donation, Mbalu expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Slovakia for the support, saying the assistance was being received on behalf of communities served by the Kenya Red Cross across the country.
According to the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nairobi, Slovakia and Kenya have maintained growing diplomatic and development relations over the years.

Slovak non-governmental organisations have operated in Kenya since 1996, while Slovakia’s Official Development Assistance programme has supported projects in the country since 2003.
The latest visit by Minister Blanár is expected to further strengthen cooperation between Nairobi and Bratislava in areas including sustainable development, trade, humanitarian response and innovation.
