Lang’ata MP and media personality Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has set tongues wagging online after celebrating a major TikTok milestone and revealing how content creators can turn social media into a source of income.

Jalang’o announced that he had surpassed one million followers on TikTok, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in his digital journey. In a video shared with his followers, he thanked those who have supported him on the platform and acknowledged the effort required to build a large audience.

According to the legislator, growing a strong presence on TikTok demands consistency, creativity and regular engagement with followers over time.

But beyond celebrating the milestone, Jalang’o used the moment to highlight the financial opportunities available through the fast-growing social media platform.

He explained that social media is increasingly becoming a source of income for many people around the world, with creators earning from content production, brand partnerships, live sessions and other monetisation programmes offered by TikTok.

Jalang’o challenged young people to look beyond entertainment when using social media. He said digital platforms can offer legitimate economic opportunities for individuals willing to invest time and effort in producing quality content that attracts and retains audiences.

His remarks come as TikTok continues to record rapid growth in Kenya and across Africa, drawing millions of users, including entertainers, influencers, entrepreneurs, politicians and businesses.

The platform has evolved into a powerful communication tool, enabling users to reach large audiences instantly while opening up new avenues for income generation.

The conversation around social media monetisation has also gained momentum in recent years, with more creators publicly sharing how they earn from online content.

Many Kenyan content creators have used platforms such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram to build personal brands, secure advertising deals and create sustainable careers in the digital economy.

Jalang’o’s message struck a chord with many followers, particularly aspiring creators looking for alternative income streams in a challenging economic environment.

His one-million-follower achievement not only underscores the influence social media personalities can command but also highlights the growing opportunities available to those who successfully build a strong digital presence.

As TikTok expands its monetisation features globally, more Kenyans are expected to explore content creation as both a passion and a potential pathway to income, entrepreneurship and wealth creation.
