Five people are in custody following investigations into a deadly attack in Tharaka Nithi County in which two people were killed and two others injured, detectives have said.
The suspects were arrested after detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) linked them to what authorities described as a planned criminal conspiracy behind the violent incident that occurred on May 21, 2026, in Tonto Village, Kamwimbi Location.
Investigators say armed assailants stormed a homestead at about 9:00 p.m., unleashing violence that left a man dead at the entrance of the compound.
The attackers are also reported to have fired several shots into the air, apparently to scare off residents, before moving deeper into the homestead, where an elderly woman was also killed.
Two other victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, detectives from CRIB Headquarters took over the case and launched what authorities described as an intelligence-led investigation supported by forensic analysis aimed at identifying those involved.
Between June 4 and June 8, coordinated operations led to the arrest of five suspects in connection with the incident.
Investigators say preliminary findings point to a carefully planned criminal conspiracy, with forensic and intelligence work helping to piece together how the attack was executed.
The suspects are being held in custody as they undergo processing ahead of arraignment. Detectives say investigations are ongoing, with additional suspects believed to have been involved still being pursued.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has reiterated its commitment to ensuring all those implicated in the attack are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
