A family in Kware, Kajiado North, was left shocked after discovering that they had opened their home to a man allegedly masquerading as a school-going girl.
Reportedly, the suspect sought help from the woman, a local retailer in Kware, on May 18, 2026, at around 9 p.m.
The suspect, who was dressed in a female school uniform, claimed to have been sent home from school over unpaid fees and said he was looking for his stepmother, identified as “Mama Glory.”
He further alleged that he was living with his aunt because both his parents had died, while his siblings were staying with their grandmother in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County.
"He came to my shop asking if I knew Mama Glory. He said he had travelled by bus from school to Nairobi, where he met a good Samaritan who paid for his ride to Kware,” the woman reported.
She sympathised with his situation, gave him food, and allowed him to spend the night at her home alongside her daughter and granddaughter.
According to reports, the suspect, who had initially been expected to sleep on the couch, later moved to the woman's daughter's bed, claiming he was scared.
"I woke up to pray, went to the sitting room, and found my daughter awake. I noticed the suspect was not on the couch and asked her about it. My daughter said the suspect had joined them in bed, saying he was scared. I had no problem with that because I believed he was a girl, so I went back to sleep,” the woman said.
According to the daughter, the suspect allegedly attempted to reach for her but instead touched her knees, raising her suspicions about his intentions.
The following day, the daughter reportedly took the suspect to the shop and questioned him about his background. She became suspicious after he allegedly gave contradictory statements and threatened to hand him over to members of the public if he did not tell the truth.
The daughter also questioned the suspect’s gender, saying he appeared to be a man dressed in female attire. She allegedly forced him to lift his dress and discovered he was male.
The matter was reported to the Kware area chief, where the suspect allegedly admitted to having moved through several counties, including Narok and Kericho, surviving on charity from strangers. He reportedly said this had become his means of survival after the death of his parents and the relocation of his grandmother to Kitale.
The suspect was later taken to Rongai Police Station, where he was taken in custody.
According to the area sub-county police commander, Kiprono Benjamin, the suspect is currently undergoing age assessment but is believed to be about 19 years old. He is expected to face charges of indecent assault on a minor.
"We tried to present him in court, but due to uncertainty regarding his age, an age assessment had to be conducted to ensure he is not a minor. Appropriate action will be taken once his age is verified,” said Kiprono.
Several community members who spoke about the incident said they were shocked by the events.
The man is also suspected to be the same suspect arrested in September last year in Kinoo, Kiambu County, while allegedly pretending to be “Millicent Kemunto” in an attempt to secure employment as a house help.
