President William Ruto has joined football fans across the continent in celebrating Arsenal FC after the club clinched the Premier League title following a hard-fought season.

Arsenal are the 2025-26 Premier League champions, winning the title for the first time in 22 years.

President Ruto described Arsenal’s journey to the league summit as an epic adventure marked by resilience, discipline and determination.

“It has been quite an experience to follow Arsenal Football Club's epic adventure, from times of struggle and crushing setback, to successive seasons of recovery and resurgence on their glorious path to the summit of the English Premier League,” Ruto said.

He added that the team’s success demonstrated the power of hope, resilience, focus and relentless hard work in action.

“Tonight, the great reward is won. The team is victorious. Its faith and dedication is vindicated. And our commitment to succeed through work, discipline and teamwork is affirmed. Congratulations to the Gunners,” he said.

Paul Kagame also congratulated Arsenal, which partners with Rwanda through the country’s tourism campaign.

“Congratulations to Arsenal, our #VisitRwanda partner, on being the Premier League champions after a hard-fought season! A well-deserved title!” Kagame said.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema joined fans in celebrating the North London club’s achievement after ending a fiercely contested title race.

Manchester City's 1-1 draw at AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night left them four points adrift of first place in the Premier League table, so they are unable to catch the Gunners on the final day of the season.

Arsenal's success follows three consecutive seasons in which they finished as runners-up, including in 2023-24 when Man City pipped them to the title by an agonising margin of two points.

Mikel Arteta becomes the first former Premier League player to win the trophy as a manager. He took charge of the Gunners in December 2019, having played for the club between 2011 and 2016.

Arsenal have now won four Premier League titles, putting them two clear of Liverpool and only one behind Chelsea. Manchester United have won 13 Premier League titles and Man City have won eight. The only other clubs to have been crowned Premier League champions are Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City, with one triumph each.

Across the full history of the English top flight, Arsenal have now been crowned champions 14 times – behind only Liverpool and Man Utd, who have both won the title 20 times.
