The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has reopened its application portal for 2025 KCSE candidates seeking placement into universities, TVET institutions and other colleges.
The application system, according to a notice, will remain open from May 16-22, 2026, allowing students to revise their university choices or submit fresh applications after the first application phase closed on May 6.
Applicants who secured provisional placement into degree programmes have already been notified through SMS and the KUCCPS portal, while those who were unsuccessful have been asked to revise their course selections.
KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome urged all eligible students who have not secured placement to take advantage of the second application window.
“We call upon all 2025 Form Four leavers who qualified for degree programmes but have not applied for placement, and those who applied but have not secured a course, to log into the system and apply again,” she said.
According to KUCCPS, 212,510 students who scored a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2025 KCSE examination have already applied for various courses.
This represents 79.1 per cent of the 268,714 candidates who attained the minimum university entry grade.
The placement agency noted that several highly competitive degree programmes, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy and engineering, were filled during the first application phase due to limited slots and high demand.
The courses have therefore been removed from the portal.
“We encourage students who applied for these programmes but missed them due to competition to apply for available programmes,” KUCCPS stated.
At the same time, KUCCPS said it is continuing placement for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Kenya Utalii College.
Among the KMTC courses currently available are Diploma in Community Health, Diploma in Mortuary Science, Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology, Diploma in Medical Engineering, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Diploma in Physiotherapy and Diploma in Public Health.
Some eight certificate courses are also open for application on a rolling basis until available slots are filled.
However, programmes such as nursing, clinical medicine and pharmacy are not currently available and will instead open for the September intake.
At Kenya Utalii College, available programmes include Diploma in housekeeping and laundry Management, Certificate in front office operations and Certificate in housekeeping and laundry operations.
The courses are open to students who sat KCSE examinations between 2000 and 2025.
To support applicants, KUCCPS and KMTC have deployed career guidance officers in 23 KMTC campuses across the country to assist students with the application process.
KUCCPS has also partnered with Huduma Kenya Secretariat to expand access to placement services in all 59 Huduma Centres nationwide, where trained officers will help students with applications and course selection.
