The legendary footballer and the iconic former Gor Mahia midfielder Allan Thigo has been cremated at the Hindu crematorium in Kisumu.
Thigo was widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever grace Kenyan football.
Thigo, who died on Saturday, was cremated around noon, with family members and a section of Gor Mahia fans in attendance.
Before the cremation, fans were given a final opportunity to pay their last respects to the celebrated footballer. As they sang and danced to different tunes of Gor Mahia songs.
Nicknamed the “90-minute man,” “the midfield general,” “Ogango Wuon Pap,” and “owner of the field,” Thigo was renowned for his creativity, vision, and commanding presence in midfield.
He played for Gor Mahia for 13 years between 1970 and 1982, becoming a central figure in the club’s dominance during one of its most successful eras.
Thigo also served as player-coach, guiding Gor Mahia to an unbeaten league title in 1976, before leading the club to the final of the 1979 African Cup Winners’ Cup.
