President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has
bid farewell to Kenya’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Isaac Njenga, following
the completion of his tour of duty in the country.
In a meeting held at State House, President Suluhu commended Ambassador
Njenga for his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between Kenya
and Tanzania during his tenure.
“The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu
Hassan, bid farewell to the High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya to the
United Republic of Tanzania, Isaac Njenga, following completion of his
tour of duty in Tanzania,” a statement said.
President Suluhu praised the outgoing envoy for playing a pivotal role in
enhancing cooperation between the two neighbouring countries and fostering
closer diplomatic engagement.
She also wished Ambassador Njenga success in his future endeavours as he
prepares to take on new responsibilities after leaving the post.
Kenya and Tanzania maintain longstanding diplomatic ties, with cooperation
spanning trade, infrastructure, regional security, and people-to-people
relations.
Njenga will be replaced by Ambassador Catherine Karemu, who has been
redeployed from her post as Kenya's High Commissioner to the UK following a
major diplomatic reshuffle by President Ruto in August 2025.
He was appointed High Commissioner to Tanzania in 2022 by former President
Uhuru Kenyatta and will now return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
headquarters.
In a series of high-profile diplomatic changes approved by the government,
Ambassador George Orina is concluding his tenure in Addis Ababa ahead of a
fresh round of redeployments within Kenya’s foreign service. Orina has been
serving as Kenya’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the
African Union, a role in which he has played a central part in advancing
Kenya’s diplomatic and multilateral interests on the continent.
The outgoing envoy is set to take up a new posting in Dublin, marking the
next phase of his diplomatic career. This week, Orina paid a farewell visit to
the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, who
commended him for his consistent and effective engagement in the work of the
continental body.
Youssouf particularly highlighted Orina’s leadership as chair of the
Permanent Representatives Committee subcommittee on budgetary, financial and
administrative matters, noting his contribution to key deliberations that
shaped financial oversight and institutional management within the African
Union. He also praised Kenya’s broader advocacy for institutional reform,
transparency, and effective governance during Orina’s tenure.
Ambassador Orina will be succeeded in Addis Ababa by Galma Boru, a career
diplomat who returns to the post from Jakarta, where he recently served as
Kenya’s inaugural ambassador to Indonesia.
