Police are holding a 20-year-old man over the brutal death of his mother in Nyamagwa village, Sameta, Kisii County.

The motive for the murder was not immediately established, police said on Tuesday.

The woman was identified as Josephine Kerubo Gisemba, 45.

Neighbours said she had been crying for help from her house, raising their concern.

They rushed to the scene and found Kerubo lying unconscious on the floor in a pool of blood.

She had a deep cut on the head and a swollen neck. Police said she was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

On Monday evening, her son surrendered to the local chief, saying he was behind the murder. Police were called and picked him up for further grilling.

The woman’s body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Police revisited the murder scene on Tuesday as part of ongoing investigations into the tragedy.

In Uriri, Migori County, a man was found murdered and his body abandoned in a thicket.

The incident occurred in the Kanyamkago area. The man was not immediately identified when the body was discovered on Monday, December 15, morning. The body had injuries to the back of the head, and blood was oozing from the ears, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere in Emakhusi, Kakamega County, two brothers were arrested after they fatally beat their younger brother during a quarrel over land.

According to police, three brothers were fighting before two of them turned on Caleb Manyonje, 27, and fatally assaulted him.

One of the suspects in the murder is a serving soldier at the Nanyuki Air Base, police said.

The body of the deceased was found outside his house with injuries to the hands and head, and fractured legs.

Police visited the scene and recovered a bloodstained wooden stick.

The two brothers later surrendered at the Shikoti Police Post, where they were arrested.

Such murder incidents have been on the rise in villages, and police say they are linked to land disputes. Others are linked to love triangles.

In Kabujoi, Nandi County, a suspect who had been stoned by a mob succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Monday.

Police said they are investigating the incident, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
