
A 42-year-old miner died after a gold mining tunnel collapsed in Nyangoma area, Bondo, Migori County, police said.
The man, identified as Michael Mbago, was reportedly inside the tunnel with two other miners on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, when the structure caved in, trapping him.
Police said the other two miners managed to escape with minor injuries.
Mbago’s body was recovered and moved to a local mortuary pending a postmortem examination and other procedures.
The incident comes amid ongoing concerns over safety in artisanal gold mining areas, where similar accidents have been reported in the past.
Separately, police in Tot area, Elgeyo Marakwet County, are investigating the death of a man who died after sustaining head injuries during a fight.
The deceased, who was working at a construction site, had not been identified by Thursday, December 11, police said.
His body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and an autopsy.
In Adungosi, Teso North, Busia County, police reported that a dispute between two brothers resulted in the death of one of them.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Okinyang, 37, was found near his home with injuries to the head.
Police said the suspect later surrendered to a local police station and was arrested.
He had earlier taken the injured man to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, police in Molo, Nakuru County, are investigating the death of a juvenile boy whose body was found in Matumaini River.
Police said the body was in a decomposed state when it was recovered on Wednesday.
Investigators suspect the child may have drowned, though the exact circumstances are yet to be established. The body was moved to the mortuary for identification and an autopsy.
In Imbirikani area, Kajiado County, police are pursuing suspects following an incident in which a vehicle was stoned and damaged.
Police said the driver and co-driver sustained injuries after debris from the shattered windscreen struck them.
They were treated at a local clinic and later discharged. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
