Jirongo died in a fatal road accident in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, while driving from Naivasha to Nairobi.
According to a police report, he died on the spot after his Mercedes-Benz saloon car was involved in a head-on collision with a passenger bus belonging to Climax Sacco at the Karai area along the Nakuru–Naivasha highway.
The bus driver told police that Jirongo had just exited a petrol station and joined the highway, but remained in the wrong lane in an apparent attempt to avoid a traffic jam.
“He left the petrol station and joined the highway, but did not give way. He came straight towards me, and we collided head-on. I tried to swerve, but I felt like my bus would roll, so I slammed the brakes, and he came straight and hit the bus,” the driver narrated.
Police said Jirongo’s body was initially taken to the Naivasha Subcounty Mortuary.
Later in the day, it was transferred to Nairobi for preservation and arrived at Lee Funeral Home shortly before noon.
