President William Ruto has described his high-level engagements in Washington, DC, as a watershed moment in Kenya’s relationship with the United States.

In a statement, Ruto expressed “profound gratitude” to President Donald Trump and his administration for what he termed generous hospitality and productive discussions that have set a new tone for bilateral cooperation.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya, I extend my profound gratitude to President Donald Trump and the Government of the United States for the generous hospitality accorded to our delegation in Washington, DC,” he said.

“Our engagements were not only productive, they equally marked a watershed moment in the long, strategic friendship between our two nations.”

He expressed appreciation for the clarity of purpose, the spirit of cooperation and the readiness of President Trump's administration to forge a bold and mutually beneficial course for the future.

Ruto acknowledged that the talks held signalled fresh momentum in the long-standing partnership between Nairobi and Washington, with commitments spanning health, trade, investment, peace and security.

On health, Kenya and US welcomed renewed cooperation aimed at strengthening disease surveillance, expanding primary healthcare and improving access to advanced medical technologies.

The government said these efforts are expected to save lives and accelerate progress toward universal health coverage.

“These commitments will save lives, uplift communities, and accelerate Kenya’s journey toward universal health coverage,” Ruto said.

In trade and investment, Ruto reported “decisive steps” to unlock new value chains, expand market access, support African manufacturing and create jobs for young people.

He noted that the United States also expressed readiness to invest in Kenya’s digital economy, infrastructure and green transition, which he described as a sign of a “new era of shared prosperity.”

The President further highlighted U.S. commitments to support stability across the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.

“Our discussions on counter-terrorism, maritime security, and conflict resolution were encouraging and reaffirm that when Kenya and the United States act together, the region becomes more secure, stable and prosperous,” he said.

Ruto went on to praise President Trump’s “personal leadership” in renewing momentum in Kenya–U.S. bilateral relations.

“Kenya values President Trump's personal leadership and the renewed momentum he has brought to our bilateral relationship,” he said.

“We are committed to translating the commitments made in Washington into real impact for our citizens, and to expanding this partnership into one of the most consequential and impactful on the continent.”
