National leaders have paid glowing tribute to nominated MP Denar Joseph Hamisi, following his death.

Hamisi, 56, passed away on December 6 at about 7 am, according to an official communication issued by National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang'ula.

Wetang'ula did not, however, disclose the cause of the death.

Hamisi, who was nominated to the National Assembly after the 2022 General Election under the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party, was widely regarded as a principled, diligent, and loyal public servant whose career spanned senior roles in both the public and private sectors.

Former ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi led the tributes, mourning Hamisi as a steadfast and resolute leader.

“It is with deep sorrow that I acknowledge the passing of Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi,” Mudavadi said.

“He was a diligent, loyal, and resolute leader who consistently stood by his principles. His forthright character and exceptional ability to mobilise and inspire others earned him respect across the political divide.”

Mudavadi conveyed condolences to Hamisi’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying for strength and peace during this difficult moment.

Wetang’ula described Hamisi as a humble and committed legislator who served with distinction in the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities.

“Hon. Denar served this House and the nation with unwavering dedication, humility, and commitment,” Wetang’ula said.

“On behalf of the National Assembly and the entire Parliamentary fraternity, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, constituents, and all who were touched by his steadfast service.”

Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Commissioner Johnstone Muthama expressed deep sorrow, noting that Hamisi’s sudden passing was a great loss to the country.

“I join the leadership of Parliament and the nation in extending my heartfelt condolences. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he stated.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi remembered Hamisi as a proud son of Kinango and a dedicated member of the Coast Parliamentary Group.

“His demise has left us all shocked and devastated,” Kingi said.

"His service in several National Assembly Committees reflected his commitment to oversight, legislation, and representation. He was instrumental in shaping the development agenda of the Coast region.”

Kingi extended condolences to the people of Kinango, the Coast region, and the entire nation.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya also mourned the MP, calling him a leader whose legacy would inspire generations.

“I convey my deepest condolences to the family of Hon. Joseph Hamisi Dena, the people of Kwale County, and the ANC Party,” Mvurya said.

“May God grant his family strength, peace, and comfort. Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un.”

Born in 1969 in Kinango, Hamisi attended Mombasa Baptist High School before joining the United States International University (USIU), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and a Master’s in International Business Administration.

He later obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.

Before joining Parliament, Hamisi held several senior positions, including Director at the Coast Development Authority, Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya, Director at the Kenya Airports Authority, Director at the Kenya National Accreditation Services, and council roles at both the University of Nairobi and Moi University.

Wetang'ula announced that Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya would lead a team to support the family in planning a befitting farewell.
