
Detectives are investigating an incident in which an unknown number of assailants reportedly raided a construction site and fatally injured a night guard before escaping with construction materials in the Oloolua area of Kajiado County.
Police said a second guard was also seriously injured in the Thursday morning incident.
According to authorities, the attackers raided the site in Hill Top estate and fled with assorted construction materials and some office equipment.
The two guards were found with their hands and legs tied in a room.
One of them, identified as Lampart Lenkoyo, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his colleague had multiple injuries.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, and the injured guard was admitted to hospital in serious condition.
Police said efforts to identify those responsible for the attack are ongoing.
Police noted that the area has experienced an increase in construction activity, alongside a rise in incidents targeting construction sites.
They said more patrols and operations will be deployed.
In Mwitseshe, Kakamega County, police are investigating a separate incident in which a fight between neighbours resulted in the death of a 56-year-old man, Peter Moris Ochieng, who worked as a farmhand in the area.
Police said he died in hospital on Thursday after sustaining injuries during the altercation.
Those believed to have been involved reportedly fled after learning of the death, and police are looking for the suspects.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
In Khayega, Kakamega County, police said they are investigating the death of a student at Sigalagala National Polytechnic.
The student, who had been unwell, was rushed to hospital from a hostel and was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and other procedures.
Meanwhile, police are also probing a mob justice incident in Itangi, Mwea, where a man was beaten to death after being accused of attempting to steal from a house.
Police described mob lynching as unlawful and urged the public to hand over suspects to authorities for due process.
They said several such incidents are reported in the country daily.
