The fifth volume of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Governance of China series was launched in Nairobi on Monday, with officials urging Kenya’s leadership to draw lessons from China as the country pursues the development model President William Ruto has likened to the “Singapore dream.”
The event held in Nairobi was presided over by ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo, Mo Gaoyi - Minister of State Council Information and deputy head of Publicity at the CPC party, and China's ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan, among other dignitaries from China and Kenya.
“I am pleased to join you in the ever-green Nairobi for this great occasion,” Gaoyi said, adding, “China and Kenya have stood side by side for developement, growing into trusted friends in politics and win-win partners in the economy.”
“Looking ahead, the elevation of our relationship to a China-Kenya community with a shared future for the new era will give strong impetus to China-Africa relations and Global South cooperation,” Gaoyi said.
The official said he was elated to be in the country, just days before the two sides mark 62 years of diplomatic ties.
"I express my sincere gratitude to our friends from various sectors who champion China’s development and the friendship between China and Kenya."
The book is a compilation of President Xi Jinping's remarks and writings, some of which are being published for the first time.
It is designed to help officials and the public further understand and apply Xi Jinping thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era.
CICG Vice President Yu Tao, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, and Radio Africa Group Editorial Director Paul Ilado were among key speakers.
The book aims to help officials build more confidence in China’s path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
It is also to guide them in the endeavours to uphold the core position of the ruling party and uphold its centralised and unified leadership, best known as the ‘two upholds’.
The book is to impress upon them to critical importance of affirming Xi’s core position on the CPC Central Committee and in the party as a whole, and affirming the guiding role of the thought.
It is also intended that the book will keep the international community abreast of the latest developments in the Xi’s thought and provide them with a better understanding of China’s vision, approaches and ideas.
The book also aims to create synergy for implementing the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative.
President Xi proposed the three initiatives as the guiding light for China and its efforts to work with friendly nations towards building a community with a shared future for humanity.
The book has 91 of Xi’s spoken and written works from May 2022 to December 2024, including speeches and writs, some being published for the first time.
It also has 41 photos of the president’s activities during the period.
Xi’s thought integrates the ideologies of Karl Marx as they play out in China’s realities and traditional culture. It represents Marxism applied to modern day China.
“It is a sound guide to action for building a great country and advancing national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization,” the authors say in the brief.
The first four volumes explains the
development of CPC and the Chinese nation and have been instrumental in
explaining how China has grown, its philosophy of governance, and approach to
governance.
