Crime Scene/FILEPolice in Athi River, Machakos County, are investigating an incident where two criminals broke into a family's house, tied up the man of the house, and raped his wife, daughter, and househelp before robbing them of cash, personal valuables, and a family car.
Athi River Subcounty Criminal Investigations Officer Michael Boiyo said the duo reportedly attacked the family at their home in Athi River Subcounty on Saturday night.
The incident happened at about 9.00pm.
Boiyo said the man of the house later reported the matter to the Mavoko SNP police station, prompting the investigations.
"The man reported to the police that he was at home with his family watching television when two masked men forcibly got entry into his house armed with crude weapons. They threatened and gathered his family members alongside himself in one room and tied them with ropes," Boiyo told the Star on Monday.
"In the process, the two raped the man's wife, househelp, and defiled his underage daughter before forcing the wife to separately transfer Sh50,000 and Sh30,000 to different mobile phones," he said.
The criminals, according to the senior DCI detectives, also stole four mobile phones, a tablet, two laptops, and a Volkswagen Golf motor vehicle.
The victims were rushed to a hospital where they were treated and discharged in fair condition.
Boiyo termed the incident as an isolated case. He said they were doing everything possible to bring the suspects to book. No arrests and recoveries of stolen property had been made by press time.
Boiyo said other than the robbery with violence, they were also investigating the duo's motive of raping the man's wife and househelp and defiling his underage daughter.
Residents who spoke to the Star said such an incident had never happened in the area. They said it was worrying to learn that the family members underwent such a trauma in the assailant's hands as the man of the house helplessly watched.
"This is very serious. Why did the thugs sexually assault the woman, daughter, and househelp before they violently robbed the family? It's not only traumatizing but also inhumane," a resident told the Star.
