Beryl Lilian Achieng Odinga, sister to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, will be buried on Saturday, December 6, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County, the family has confirmed.

The announcement was made by Raila Odinga Junior, a nephew of the deceased, who confirmed that the family had convened to agree on the final resting place.

"We will lay her to rest at Kango ka Jaramogi on Saturday, December 6, 2025," he said.

A memorial service is scheduled to take place at Consolata Shrine in Westlands on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

The Odinga family on Sunday appealed to Kenyans for financial support to help cover funeral expenses for the late Beryl.

According to Raila Junior, the decision was made with the guidance and approval of his uncle, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga.

“With the blessings of my uncle Dr Oburu, we sat down with Jokawuor today to choose the final resting place for my late aunt, Beryl Lilian Achieng Mungwari Odinga,” Raila Junior posted on his social media account.

The chosen burial site, Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, holds deep personal and historical significance for the family.

Located in Bondo, Siaya county, it is closely associated with the legacy of Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Beryl’s father.

In his tribute, Raila Odinga Junior described his late aunt as a woman of strength, grace, and quiet influence.

"Honouring a life that deeply touched our entire family and all who knew her. Beryl Lilian Achieng Mungwari Odinga of Jokawuor, daughter of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mama Mary Juma Odinga, who leaves behind a legacy of strength, grace, and quiet impact," he wrote.

Beryl passed away on November 25, 2025, at a Nairobi hospital, where she had been receiving treatment. She was 78 years old.

According to family sources, she had battled a prolonged illness and had been in and out of medical facilities over the past several years.

Despite belonging to one of the country’s most consequential political families, she led a largely private life.

She was the fourth-born in the Odinga family, coming after Oburu, Raila, the late Ngire Omuodo Agola, and Dr Akinyi Wenwa. Her life, however, extended far beyond the clan’s political prominence, shaping notable professional milestones both in Kenya and Zimbabwe.

Beryl was married to the late Otieno Ambala, who briefly served as Member of Parliament for Gem before his death in 1985.

Among the family members present during deliberations was Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga, who has been actively supporting funeral arrangements.

The process has also been guided by Senator Oburu Oginga, who returned to the country on November 28, 2025, from a short sabbatical in Dubai.
