A Kenyan woman was arrested on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with 28 pellets of cocaine valued at Sh3.6 million.

Police said the drug courier’s daring attempt to slip into Kenya with a stomach full of cocaine ended after sharp-eyed Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives intercepted her moments after landing.

The suspect had just touched down from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on November 21 when detectives, acting on precise intelligence, quietly closed in.

She was escorted to the ANU offices for observation, and within minutes the truth began to spill out as she emitted 14 pellets of cocaine.

Knowing there was more, detectives maintained a tight watch, and soon another 14 pellets followed, bringing the tally to 28 pellets weighing 912.74 grams and valued at approximately Sh3,650,960 on the streets, police said.

A subsequent X-ray scan later confirmed her abdomen was clear, sealing the case with clinical certainty.

It is not clear where she intended to take the drugs. Police said they believe she had a potential buyer or intended to transport the consignment to a different market outside Kenya.

She was detained as detectives prepared her for arraignment. Police say they have intensified operations at all entry points to address the menace of drug trafficking.

Elsewhere, a well-coordinated operation led by ANU detectives in Mombasa resulted in the arrest of six traffickers and the seizure of bhang valued at approximately Sh72 million.

Acting on intelligence, detectives intercepted a truck along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway before the narcotics hit the streets.

An inspection of the truck uncovered 50 sacks stuffed with long rolls of bhang wrapped in khaki paper, weighing a total of 2,400kg.

The driver and his co-driver were arrested on the spot.

Hot on their heels, detectives also intercepted three more vehicles believed to be part of the distribution chain: a Toyota Noah, a Nissan Note, and a Toyota Vitz.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the three vehicles were meant to be loaded with the intercepted consignment for distribution across Mombasa and its environs.

All six suspects are in custody undergoing processing, while the seized narcotics and vehicles are being detained as exhibits.

Officials have intensified the war against drug traffickers in recent months, arresting dozens of suspects and recovering hundreds of kilogrammes of narcotics in various operations
