Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has been accorded a red carpet reception at State House, Nairobi, following his arrival in Kenya on Sunday evening for an official visit.

The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The ceremonial welcome was hosted by President William Ruto and marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic ties between Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi.

Upon arrival on Monday morning, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was driven in a black Toyota Prado bearing Malaysian number plates, escorted by three motorcycle guards strategically positioned around the vehicle.

On stepping out, he was warmly received by President Ruto, who personally welcomed the visiting dignitary in a display of diplomatic courtesy.

The reception included a formal red carpet ceremony where the Malaysian leader greeted senior Kenya Defence Forces officials.

Following this, he and President Ruto proceeded together to the podium, where they observed a ceremonial formation by the Kenya Defence Forces.

The Army led the formation, standing at attention as national anthems of both Kenya and Malaysia were played.

In a symbolic gesture of respect, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was accorded a 21-gun salute by the Kenya Navy, reflecting the significance of the state visit.

He then conducted a ceremonial march in front of the troops before returning to the podium, while the disciplined forces completed their formation march with precision, maintaining a solemn and dignified presence.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, cabinet secretaries, and delegates accompanying the Malaysian delegation.

The visit is part of a broader agenda to deepen economic and diplomatic cooperation between Kenya and Malaysia.

The two leaders are expected to engage in formal discussions. 

Discussions are expected to focus on the digital economy, housing, and education, areas that both countries have identified as critical for shared growth. 

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Kenya marks a milestone in the bilateral relationship, with the military honors at State House symbolising the high regard in which Kenya holds the Malaysian leadership.
