Security has been significantly heightened around Parliament ahead of President William Ruto’s State of the Nation address, scheduled for 2pm.

Barricade vehicles have also been strategically positioned to control traffic flow and prevent any unauthorised access.

The measures are part of standard security protocols observed whenever the President delivers an address in Parliament.

Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to use alternative routes as certain roads around the Parliament precinct have been temporarily closed.

Traffic marshals and officers on foot could be seen guiding vehicles to ease congestion and maintain smooth movement in surrounding areas.

The State of the Nation address, delivered annually, provides the President an opportunity to outline the government’s achievements, policy priorities, and legislative agenda for the coming year.

It is a key event in Kenya’s political calendar, attracting attention from lawmakers, diplomats, journalists, and the public.

After his arrival, Ruto will inspect a guard of honor mounted by the military before proceeding to the parliamentary chambers to deliver his address.

Members of Parliament are expected to convene in the chamber ahead of the president’s arrival at 2pm.

The event also typically draws former leaders, high-ranking officials, and representatives from various sectors of society.

“While this is a routine exercise, our focus remains on ensuring that everyone attending or following the address can do so safely,” said a senior police official.

Ruto’s address is expected to highlight ongoing development projects, economic strategies, and initiatives aimed at national cohesion.
