Police in Kisii Central Sub-County have intensified efforts to curb the production and distribution of illicit alcohol following a major raid in Kiogoro Location.
In an early-morning operation, officers from Kiogoro Police Station conducted a search in Riangombenene Village, targeting individuals suspected of involvement in the manufacture of Chang’aa.
Authorities reported the recovery of 2,000 litres of Kangara, a substance used in distilling Chang’aa, and 40 litres of the finished alcoholic beverage.
A woman was arrested during the raid and taken to Kiogoro Police Station.
The seized products have been secured as exhibits, and the suspect is expected to face court proceedings.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the operation is part of an ongoing effort to reduce the distribution of harmful and illegal alcohol in the region.
Officials added that similar crackdowns will continue in Kisii Central to dismantle networks involved in the production and supply of illicit brews.
Residents have been encouraged to support the efforts by providing information on suspicious activities through toll-free hotlines 999, 911, and 112.
Reports can also be submitted anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI platform using 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
Earlier, police in Wajir County arrested five individuals and seized illicit alcohol in Manyalo Location.
Officers from Wajir Police Station recovered eight litres of an unregulated drink locally known as Kerong’anga.
The suspects were taken into custody, and the seized substances have been secured as evidence pending court proceedings.
In a statement, the NPS reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against illegal alcohol and narcotic substances nationwide and urged residents to cooperate by reporting activities that may threaten public safety.
These actions are part of a broader crackdown on unregulated brews, which authorities say continue to pose health risks in various parts of the country.
In October, a multi-agency security operation in Kericho County seized a significant consignment of illegal alcohol. Conducted in Kaplelartet Location, Sigowet Division, the operation involved NACADA, the NPS, and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO). Officers dismantled several brewing sites and confiscated approximately 50,000 litres of Kangara, 100 litres of Chang’aa, and 1,000 litres of molasses believed to be used in production.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa described the operation as part of the ongoing Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), a government-backed strategy to curb the production and sale of illicit alcohol.
