Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured residents of Mbeere North that the government remains committed to completing all ongoing development projects in the constituency.
Kindiki, who has pitched camp in the area ahead of next week’s by-election, said the region has suffered years of marginalisation but is now benefiting from major infrastructural programmes initiated under President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking during campaign stops in Muthanthara and Kirie, the Deputy President urged residents to elect the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Leonard Wamuthende, saying he would be better placed to champion the constituency’s needs within government.
He warned voters against embracing the opposition, arguing that doing so would slow down development momentum.
“The development needs of Mbeere North are massive. We can’t afford to play cards with our development again. Those telling you to join the opposition don’t mean well for you,” Kindiki said.
He emphasised that Wamuthende, if elected, would have the support of other Embu leaders and easier access to senior government officials, including the President, which he said would fast-track the completion of priority projects.
Kindiki outlined a number of ongoing projects worth billions of shillings, citing them as evidence of the government’s commitment to uplifting the constituency.
Key among them is the tarmacking of major roads including the Siakago–Kanyuambora Road, Gikuyari–Ishiara Road, and the Kanyuambora–Kamumu Road, which he said will significantly improve connectivity and open up economic opportunities.
The Deputy President also highlighted major water projects being implemented in the constituency.
These include the Kanyuambora Ward Water Project valued at Sh250 million and the Kamata Water Project in Nthawa Ward worth Sh150 million.
In addition, a large-scale water supply initiative tapping into Kiambere Dam—intended to serve both Mbeere North and Mbeere South—has commenced, with the government already allocating Sh1.3 billion for the first phase.
On electrification, Kindiki said the constituency has been allocated Sh336 million for last-mile connectivity, noting that the amount is set to double to Sh600 million following his intervention.
He promised to follow up personally on all the projects to ensure timely implementation.
At the same time, Kindiki cautioned political rivals against spreading hatred and intimidation during the campaign period, calling for peaceful engagement.
“This habit of insulting elected leaders and the people must come to an end. Those who have perfected it should know their days are numbered. You cannot be threatening everyone and imposing yourself on people who don’t want anything from you,” he warned
Kindiki’s intensified presence in Mbeere North comes as he rallies support for Wamuthende, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua leads parallel campaigns in support of Democratic Party (DP) candidate Newton Karish.
