The incident happened Sunday evening when a team of police officers
responded to a scene where a group was fighting in Hagadera Town, police said.
While trying to restore normalcy, one of the officers accidentally opened
fire, injuring his colleague in the back, police said.
He was hit by a bullet fired from an AK-47 rifle in the scuffle and rushed
to a hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition.
Meanwhile, a section of Kiamariga
Police Station in Nyeri County was burnt down in an incident.
The fire left a trail of destruction and disruption of
delivery of services.
The fire caused extensive damage to the station's
property, including the armoury and records office.
One AK-47 rifle was destroyed in the fire.
At least two police officers were slightly injured as they
battled the fire.
The fire had emanated from a house next to the station before
spreading fast to the main block, affecting the exhibit store, armory, the
Officer Commanding Station’s office, records, and police cells.
Officials said all the police station records, including cash
bail receipt books with an unknown amount of money, were destroyed by the fire
on November 13, 2025.
A team
of counsellors visited the station and talked to the affected officers.
On Friday, November 14, 2025, the Inspector-General of the
National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, visited the station to assess the
aftermath of a fire.
He expressed his solidarity with the personnel affected by the incident and assured them that the damaged buildings would be repaired promptly.
He commended the swift and voluntary collaboration
between the public and the officers in battling the fire, noting it as a clear
indication of a strong community-police relationship.
Kanja used the
occasion to encourage officers to embrace community policing as an effective
strategy for crime prevention.
He said they will rebuild the affected station. The locals were urged to cooperate in efforts to restore the services there.
Kanja further thanked the officers for their
continued discipline and dedication, highlighting that, despite the setback,
they were discharging their duties professionally and diligently.
He encouraged
them to maintain fairness and firmness, and to adhere to the rule of law.
“We will have it back soon. I urge the officers to continue working hard,” he said.
