Police in Nairobi have shot and killed a suspected robber following a failed attack in Korogocho slums.
According to authorities, officers recovered a home-made pistol, a dagger and a stolen mobile phone from the deceased.
The incident occurred after a group reportedly attacked a woman and stole her mobile phone.
The victim raised an alarm, drawing the attention of police officers who were on patrol in the area.
Officers responded to the distress call and confronted the suspects, leading to a brief exchange during which one of the individuals was fatally shot as his accomplices fled on foot.
The confrontation took place on Friday night in the Kisumu Ndogo section of Korogocho.
Police said a man was injured during the incident and was taken to hospital, where he received treatment and was discharged.
Another suspect was arrested in connection with the attempted robbery.
The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further procedures as investigations continue.
Authorities noted they have intensified patrols across Nairobi as part of efforts to curb a rise in criminal activities ahead of the festive season.
In a separate incident, police in Transmara, Narok County, are investigating a robbery in which a gold dealer was shot and seriously wounded.
The robbery took place on Friday night at Game Trading Centre, where the victim was confronted by armed men who demanded he surrender the gold he had in his possession.
A brief struggle ensued before the robbers opened fire, injuring the dealer in the forehead.
Police said the bullet grazed his face.
The gang fled with the gold and an unspecified amount of money.
At the scene, officers recovered three spent cartridges of 7.62×39 mm special ammunition.
The victim was admitted to a local hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers.
Authorities attributed the growing crime incidents in the area to the presence of gold deposits, which have attracted increased investment and, consequently, criminal activity.
They said they are taking measures to curb attacks on traders, who have been targeted both on the roads and within their premises.
Meanwhile, detectives in Bondo, Siaya County, are probing the death of a 73-year-old man who was killed in a mob attack linked to a dispute over control of businesses at Gul Min Augo beach.
Police identified the deceased as Dennis Ambrose Achieng, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the November 15 confrontation.
According to police, Achieng had hired six bouncers to assist him, but the group was ambushed and attacked by a mob.
The assailants later erected barricades on the road leading to the scene in an attempt to prevent police from accessing the area.
Officers eventually reached the location and rescued the six bouncers, though the attackers had already fled.
Police said investigations are ongoing, and the body has been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
