Police in Migori County are investigating the circumstances under which a teacher drowned in West Kanyamkogo, Uriri, Migori county.

The victim, identified as Douglas Okita, was a teacher at Chief Kawasa Primary School.

According to police, he drowned in River Oyani in the Kajulu area on Saturday, though details surrounding the incident remain unclear.

His body was retrieved and taken to a local mortuary pending further procedures as investigations continue.

In a separate incident in Tetu, Nyeri County, a 75-year-old man identified as Gerald Gachugu Muriithi was found dead in a man-made dam.

Police said the discovery was made hours after he had gone missing.

Locals alerted authorities after finding his shoes and jacket at the edge of the dam before the body was later spotted.

According to police, the body had an injury on the forehead, and blood was oozing from the nose and ears.

The motive behind the suspected murder is yet to be established. The body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy and other procedures.

Authorities noted that drowning cases have been on the rise in recent days and confirmed investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a couple died in a road crash along the Ndumberi–Tinganga Road in Kiambu County on November 15, 2025.

Their one-and-a-half-year-old son was injured and admitted to hospital.

Police said the accident occurred after their motorcycle collided with a saloon car.

The driver of the saloon car fled the scene reportedly out of fear of retaliation from other riders.

Police later arrived, moved the bodies to the mortuary and towed both vehicles to the local station as investigations began.

In another incident in Kangema, Murang’a County, a 22-year-old rider was found dead in his house a day after being involved in what was believed to be a minor accident.

Police identified the victim as Ernest Njuguna.

He had sustained an ankle bruise after an accident at Karugia shopping centre on Friday evening and was helped home by locals.

He was found dead the following morning in his house in Muringaine area.

Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.

Along the Meru–Nanyuki highway, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident.

Witnesses said the vehicle involved sped off after the crash.

Police moved the body to the mortuary as they launched investigations to trace the driver.

Elsewhere, a 26-year-old man identified as Brian Kipkorir was fatally hit by a cargo train along the Naivasha–Nakuru railway line.

Police said Kipkorir was crossing the railway line when the train approached.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending further procedures.

Authorities have urged caution, noting that such cases have been increasing.
