The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has directed Kisumu County City Manager Michael Abala Wanga to appear at its Integrity Centre headquarters in Nairobi following the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) concurrence to prefer charges against him.

In a statement on Thursday, EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud said the summons relate to allegations involving the use of academic certificates whose authenticity is under question.

Mohamud added that the DPP has determined that Abala has a case to answer regarding claims that his current appointment may have involved the presentation of false academic documents.

The EACC statement also refers to allegations that Abala facilitated travel and allowances for a non-staff member on official duty to Lagos, Nigeria, in July 2024, using documentation that purportedly represented the individual as a county employee.

In the statement, he will be charged with multiple offences, including forgery, fraudulent acquisition of public property, uttering false documents, and presentation of forged certificates, as outlined under the Penal Code, the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, and the Kenya National Examinations Council Act.

The EACC has urged Wanga to comply with the summons and present himself at its headquarters to proceed with the next steps in the legal process.

“The Commission hereby directs Mr Michael Abala Wanga to present himself at EACC Headquarters, Integrity Centre, Nairobi, immediately for processing,” Mohamud said.
