Detectives in Nyali, Mombasa County, have arrested a woman accused of staging a well-orchestrated robbery against her British boyfriend after luring him to her apartment for what the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) describes as a “dream date turned heist.”

According to police, the suspect had been wooing the Briton online for months, convincing him that she was deeply in love and eager to start a life with him.

Convinced by her promises, the man travelled to Kenya and checked into a hotel in the Mtwapa area on October 25, 2025.

He remained at the hotel until November 2, when the woman invited him to her fifth-floor apartment in Nyali.

The man told detectives he took a taxi to the address, unaware he was walking into a carefully planned robbery.

Barely ten minutes after settling in, two men stormed into the room. One identified himself as the woman’s enraged husband, accusing the Briton of wrecking his marriage. The second man flashed what police say was a fake police ID and threatened to arrest him.

Fearing for his life, the tourist was taken hostage. Police said the gang ordered him to transfer Sh800,000 from his bank account to four mobile phone numbers they provided. He complied.

Once the money was sent, the three suspects calmly escorted him out of the apartment and vanished before he could raise the alarm. The shaken victim sought help soon after and reported the matter to authorities.

Acting on forensic intelligence, detectives launched a manhunt and arrested the woman and one of her alleged accomplices on Monday, November 10, 2025 in the Bamburi area.

Investigators say the pair belong to a notorious syndicate that targets foreigners using online dating sites, lures them into private apartments or short-term rentals, and robs them of large sums of money.

The arrested suspects were detained and were being processed pending arraignment. Police said the hunt for the third suspect, who is still at large, has intensified.
