Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Felix Koskei has launched his family’s charity foundation, which he says seeks to uplift the poor in the country.
The event took place at Serena Hotel in Nairobi on Saturday evening and was graced by top government officials led by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, who was the chief guest.
Others who were at the launch include Principal Secretaries Raymond Omollo (Interior), Julius Bitok (Education), Paul Rono (Agriculture), Belio Kipsang (Immigration), John Tanui (ICT), Aurelia Rono (Parliamentary Affairs), Mary Kimonye (Public Service), National Land Commission (NLC) CEO Kabale Tache Arero among others.
“We launched the Chalan Foundation today. The Foundation is a family initiative that seeks to play a role in transforming the lives of vulnerable children, young people, and communities through inclusive education, life skills, psychosocial support, and economic empowerment,” Koskei said.
Established in 2013, it has reached more than 121,000 children across underserved counties, including Nandi, Turkana, Samburu, Kitui, Kajiado, Pokot, and Homa Bay, among others.
He said he will use his network, resources and influence to advance the objectives of the Foundation that is led by his wife, Margeret Koskei.
“I am confident that the Foundation will continue to expand access to quality education, nurture leadership among the youth, and strengthen community resilience,” the Chief of Staff said.
“We are grateful to all our partners and everyone who attended the launch, whose support and presence make this initiative possible. Join us in lighting hope and leaving footprints. As Aristotle observed, ‘Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all."
On his side, CS Duale said, “Honoured to have graced, as the Chief Guest, the official launch of the Chalan Foundation's strategic plan, an initiative established by Margaret Koskei, spouse to the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.”
For the past 13 years, the Health CS said the Foundation has been transforming lives by empowering communities through quality education, economic opportunities and initiatives that foster self-reliant, thriving and healthy societies.
“This vision closely aligns with the health sector's mandate, as it recognises that true wellbeing extends beyond medical care to include education, livelihoods and sustainable community development, ensuring that every Kenyan has the foundation to lead a healthy, productive life.”
Other than Margaret who is the founder, other members of the Chalan Foundation Governing Council include Dr Loice Rono and lawyer Diane Rotich Siboe.
The Foundation aims at equipping learners with relevant, lifelong skills, building truly inclusive systems and creating ecosystems that support holistic wellbeing
“As Africa confronts rising digital economies, climate challenges, and a growing youth population, education must now encompass: life skills development, digital literacy, leadership cultivation and social resilience building,” the Foundation’s strategic plan states.
