A three-year-old boy was killed in a fire in Kiamwathi location, Ruringu area, Nyeri County, on Thursday, police reported.

Authorities from Ruringu Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), NGAO, and the Red Cross visited the scene and established that the fire originated in the house of one tenant, who sustained minor injuries.

The child succumbed to injuries and was burnt beyond recognition, police said.

Another tenant was seriously injured, and both adults were rushed to Nyeri PGH for treatment.

The child’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

The house, made of wood and iron sheets, was destroyed. It comprised 25 rooms, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

In separate incidents, police in Kaptama, Bungoma County, recovered the body of a man, later identified as 58-year-old Titus Kwemoi, in a maize plantation. Police said the body showed signs of bleeding from the mouth.

The motive of the murder is not yet known, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Misikhu, Bungoma County, the body of 41-year-old Moris Wekesa was found floating in River Nzoia in Stabicha village.

The body had visible deep cuts on the head and neck.

Police indicated Wekesa was likely killed elsewhere before being dumped in the river on Thursday. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Meanwhile, four police officers were injured when a lorry they were travelling in veered off the Kolowa-Chemolingot Road on November 5, 2025.

The team, from the General Service Unit headquarters, was en route to Chemolingot when the driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle landed in a ditch.

Two female civilians, who had hitchhiked a lift, were also injured.

All victims were treated in the hospital and discharged in stable condition, police said.
