On the Radar

President William Ruto is in Doha, Qatar for the second day of the United Nations Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2).

The three-day summit will centre on poverty reduction, decent work, and social inclusion, bringing together world leaders to chart a renewed global social agenda.

On Tuesday, Ruto met members of the Kenyan diaspora community in Doha on the sidelines of the summit.

Ruto praised the Kenyans working in Qatar for their discipline, hard work, and contribution to the country’s economic growth.

He said their commitment continues to strengthen Kenya’s global image and boost remittances that play a key role in the country’s development.

The head of state assured the Kenyan community in Qatar that his administration remains focused on making it easier for citizens abroad to access government services and employment support.

At a separate meeting, Ruto called for comprehensive reform of the international financial architecture to make it fair, transparent, and responsive to the needs of developing nations and their people.

Ruto is expected to finalise major investment agreements aimed at modernising Kenya’s infrastructure and accelerating key energy and transport projects.

He will also engage in high-level bilateral discussions, including talks with Qatar’s Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Ruto will also push for the expansion of the Kenya-Qatar Bilateral Labour Agreement to include more professional and technical opportunities.

Murkomen to appear before Senate Plenary to respond to queries from lawmakers

Interior and National Administration CS Kipchumba Murkomen will appear before the Senate Plenary at 9.30 am.

Murkomen will issue clarifications and respond to various questions raised by senators touching on security matters, immigration and citizenship.

The CS is also expected to address disaster and emergency response in the wake of the devastating mudslide that struck the hilly terrain of Elgeyo Marakwet County on November 1, 2025.

The death toll has reached at least 34 people, with 17 still reported missing and dozens injured.

Many families have lost everything—homes, livestock, access roads—and hundreds of households have been directly affected and displaced.

Sudan embassy in Nairobi to hold press briefing on El Fasher situation

Embassy of Sudan in Nairobi will address press conference on the situation in El Fasher region in Sudan.

The briefing will be held at the embassy in Kilimani, Kabarnet road off Ngong Road in Nairobi at 11 am.

The security situation in El Fasher has reportedly deteriorated after Sudan’s army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced the withdrawal of government troops from their last stronghold in Darfur.

Since the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began 18 months ago, Sudan has faced a severe humanitarian crisis. Infrastructure has been damaged, millions of people have fled their homes, and essential services, including health care, are under significant strain.

More than 12 million people have been displaced within Sudan and across its borders, according to UN estimates, making it one of the largest internal displacement crises globally.

Most of those displaced are women and children, who face hunger, disease, and heightened vulnerability to violence.
