Man, 33, found dead in Eastleigh lodging as police launch probe

Detectives are investigating an incident where the body of a man was found in a lodging after a suspected death by suicide case in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

Police said Ali Ahmed Shire, 33, a Somali national, had checked into the room for a week on November 2 but failed to come out of his house the following day.

This raised the curiosity of the management who went to check on him.

The management said there was no response from the room, forcing them to break in, where they found the body sliding on a bed with a bedsheet tied around his neck and hanging from the roof of the room along Second Avenue.

Police were called to the scene and moved the body to a local mortuary pending autopsy and burial.

The motive of the incident was not immediately established.

Suicide cases are on the rise. Police statistics show suicide cases are on the rise in a worrying trend.

Most of the victims are men, statistics show.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, a history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression, and bipolar disorder.

And a 32-year-old man was slashed to death in a suspected love triangle saga in a house in the Bidii Mutoni area, Maili Saba, Trans Nzoia County.

The deceased was identified as Samuel Wanyonyi. The assailant is said to have found him in his house in a compromising situation before he fatally assaulted him.

Police said the assailant later called the wife of the deceased and asked her to go to the scene.

When the wife arrived there, she found the husband unconscious after he had been assaulted in the November 3, 2025 incident.

It emerged the deceased had been assaulted by two men. His motorcycle lay outside the house when police arrived at the scene. The assailant had escaped on foot.

The victim was rushed to Tuwan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

A panga believed to have been used in the attack, a yellow and blood-stained hoodie, and the motorbike belonging to the deceased were recovered from the scene.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said they are hunting for the assailants in the saga for grilling.

Police say cases of murder linked to love triangles have been on the rise in parts of the country amid efforts to solve them.
