Police in Elgeyo Marakwet County are investigating a shocking incident in which a man fatally stabbed his brother following a dispute over family land in Metkei area, Elgeyo Marakwet.

According to police reports, the suspect attacked his brother, identified as Daniel Kiplagat, during an argument that turned violent on Saturday, November 1.

Kiplagat was stabbed in the chest and collapsed outside their father’s homestead, where he died from his injuries.

Police said the assailant used a kitchen knife in committing the murder before fleeing the scene.

The body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations continue to track down the suspect.

The incident adds to a string of violent crimes reported across different parts of the country over the weekend.

In Kajiado County, police are also investigating a brutal killing in which a woman was hacked to death by an unidentified assailant in Isinya area.

The victim, Rebecca Wafula, aged 26, was reportedly on her way to work at a local factory on Saturday morning when the fatal attack occurred.

Witnesses said Wafula and two colleagues had just alighted from a matatu and were walking to the factory when a man armed with a forked jembe emerged from nearby bushes and struck.

Her colleagues fled in panic as the assailant, whose face was covered, hit Wafula on the head. She collapsed and died on the spot after suffering severe bleeding.

Police said the motive behind the killing is yet to be established, but a manhunt for the suspect has been launched.

Wafula’s body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Elsewhere, in Katilu, Aroo area of Turkana County, gunmen ambushed two men as they left a church event on Saturday, killing one and seriously injuring another.

The deceased was identified as Longol Akwaee, 45.

The second victim sustained a gunshot wound to his hand and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The motive of the attack remains unclear, though authorities have linked the region to recurrent armed violence.

Turkana is among several northern counties under Operation Maliza Uhalifu, a joint security initiative targeting banditry and cattle rustling in Kenya’s northern frontier.

The operation covers Baringo, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Meru, and Isiolo counties.

Despite persistent attacks, security agencies say the coordinated efforts have significantly contained crime in the affected regions.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has emphasized that, beyond security operations, the government’s long-term strategy involves empowering local communities through sustainable development and agricultural revival.

He said the State plans to distribute subsidized farm inputs and provide extension services to boost farming as a stable source of livelihood.

Murkomen also directed a fresh vetting of all National Police Reservists (NPRs) to strengthen security operations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ending banditry and restoring peace in the Kerio Valley and northern Kenya.
