The government has deployed police and military helicopters, along with medical teams and Red Cross personnel, to support ongoing search and rescue operations in Elgeyo Marakwet County following the deadly mudslides.
Authorities say the death toll has risen to more than 20, with at least 17 bodies confirmed recovered and dozens of people still missing.
Embobut MCA Paul Yatich said six bodies were retrieved from his constituency, while another 11 were found in other parts of the Kerio Valley.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen sent a message of condolence to the affected families and communities.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Endo, Sambirir, and Embobut Wards in Marakwet East Constituency following the devastating landslide that has led to the loss of lives and property, as well as the destruction of infrastructure, including the road network,” he said.
