A middle-aged man was found dead after reportedly being electrocuted under a live wire in Mkomani, Nyali, Mombasa County.

Police indicated that the man may have suffered shock while attempting to extract copper wires from an electric pole.

He died at the scene following the Thursday afternoon incident.

Kenya Power and Lighting officials were called to disconnect the power supply before the body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Incidents of this nature have reportedly been increasing, with warnings issued by officials about the risks of tampering with electricity or attempting to steal cables.

Officials have also been running campaigns to educate the public on the dangers of such practices.

In a separate incident, a 12-year-old boy reportedly drowned in River Nyando while attempting to retrieve a shoe that had fallen into the river.

Police said the incident occurred in Kobongo village on October 29.

The boy, a grade two pupil at Onjiko Kobongo Primary School, had gone with friends to pick mangoes near the river.

When his shoe fell into the water, he reportedly rushed to retrieve it, unaware of the dangers.

The current carried him downstream, prompting a search that is still ongoing, police said. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, police in Barolengo area, Siaya County, are investigating the discovery of a human skull inside a matatu. Passengers reported seeing the skull, wrapped in a carrier bag along with cow horns, and alerted the matatu crew, who contacted the police.

It remains unclear who placed the items on the back seat of the vehicle. The cargo was moved to a mortuary pending identification, autopsy, and further procedures, while authorities continue to investigate the motive.

Separately, a 45-year-old woman was reportedly killed following a quarrel over an unspecified amount of money in Konoin, Bomet County.

Police said Daisy Chelangat succumbed to her injuries at a hospital after an assault by two men in Boston village.

Authorities are investigating the incident as a suspected murder. The body was moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

Police noted that murder cases have reportedly been on the rise in the country, prompting the establishment of a homicide unit to handle such cases more efficiently.
