Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni addresses a press conference at the party headquarters in Nairobi/HANDOUTThe Jubilee Party on Thursday made major leadership and structural resolutions during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, marking a significant moment in its political reawakening.
Chaired by Party Leader Uhuru Kenyatta, the NEC resolved to appoint former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as Deputy Party Leader, filling a key vacancy in the party’s top leadership.
The council also unanimously accepted Matiang’i’s formal application to be Jubilee’s presidential candidate, setting the stage for his bid in the next general election.
In addition to his nomination, Matiang’i was chosen to represent Jubilee at the United Opposition Movement, a coalition of political parties positioning itself to challenge the ruling administration in the upcoming polls.
The NEC tasked him with spearheading Jubilee’s outreach efforts while championing a message of progressive leadership, integrity, and national unity.
The meeting also saw new appointments within the party’s executive structure. Kagwe Gichohi was named Executive Director, while Ekomwa James Lomenen and Samwel Arama were designated as Senate and National Assembly Whips, respectively.
To strengthen its national presence, the NEC approved a comprehensive revitalisation plan that includes a nationwide mass membership registration and mobilisation campaign.
The initiative aims to rebuild grassroots networks and restore public confidence in the party.
“This initiative will focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots networks, rebuilding public confidence, and reaffirming Jubilee’s commitment to the values of unity, development, and democracy,” said Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.
Kioni reiterated the party’s commitment to democratic renewal, institutional strengthening, and active participation in shaping Kenya’s political and socio-economic direction.
“The party continues to stand for the ideals of peace, inclusivity, and transformative governance for all Kenyans,” he added.

At the start of the session, the NEC extended heartfelt condolences to the Odinga family following the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga.
The council expressed solidarity with Mama Ida Odinga, her children, and the ODM fraternity during this period of national mourning.
With Thursday’s resolutions, Jubilee formally solidified Matiang’i’s place in the United Opposition alliance, underscoring its strategic role in the emerging political realignments.
Matiang’i has been promising a results-oriented and accountable administration, should he be elected president.
“I will not burden Kenyans with excuses,” Matiang’i said at a past event. “My government will focus on practical measures that directly address the challenges facing our people.”
He has pledged to uphold transparency and accountability, committing to allow full public scrutiny of his decisions and performance in office.
“If entrusted with leadership, Kenyans will have the right to hold me accountable for every promise I make and every action I take,” he affirmed.
