The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a temporary suspension of services on its iTax platform to allow for scheduled system maintenance.
In a notice issued on Friday evening, the tax agency said the exercise will begin on Saturday, October 25, and is expected to end by Sunday, October 26, 2025, lasting approximately four hours.
“Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iTax from Saturday, 25th October 2025, 8:00 PM to Sunday, 26th October 2025, 12:00 AM,” the notice read in part.
KRA said that during this period, the iTax system will be unavailable to all users.
This means that taxpayers will be unable to access core services such as filing returns, generating payment slips, updating profiles, or applying for tax compliance certificates.
The authority expressed regret over the inconvenience caused.
The notice is part of the taxman’s ongoing efforts to keep its digital infrastructure up to date and reliable.
The announcement affects all taxpayers who rely on the iTax system for their day-to-day compliance with Kenya’s tax obligations.
Individuals and businesses are therefore advised to complete any urgent transactions before 8:00 pm on Saturday to avoid interruptions.
The iTax system has been central to KRA’s drive towards automation, enabling taxpayers to interact with the authority digitally rather than through physical offices.
The platform, first launched in 2014, serves millions of users every month, offering a one-stop online interface for tax registration, filing, payment, and compliance monitoring.
According to the Kenya Revenue Authority, iTax is an online tax administration platform designed to simplify and enhance the efficiency of tax-related services.
It allows both individuals and organisations to register for a Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN), file tax returns, pay taxes, and request compliance certificates through the internet.
The system integrates various tax obligations, including Income Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Excise Duty, and Withholding Tax, ensuring that all taxpayers can manage their obligations from one central point.
Through iTax, taxpayers can also update their personal details, view their tax compliance history, and generate payment slips that link directly with the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and commercial banks for seamless remittance.
The platform forms part of KRA’s broader digital transformation agenda, which aims to enhance revenue collection, reduce manual processes, and improve transparency and accountability in tax administration.
It also supports the authority’s mandate to mobilise
domestic revenue for national development, as outlined in the KRA Act and the Public
Finance Management framework.
Today, nearly every taxpayer in Kenya interacts with iTax at least once a year when filing returns, and many use it regularly for day-to-day compliance.
