Talanta Stadium is undergoing construction in preparation for AFCON 2027/PCS

Construction of Talanta Stadium is steadily progressing as Kenya prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

President William Ruto has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering world-class sports infrastructure, sharing fresh images showing ongoing works at the new stadium.

“Construction of Talanta Stadium is on course as we prepare to co-host AFCON 2027,” he said.

The project forms part of the government’s wider infrastructure plan to ensure the country meets the Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards for the continental showpiece.

The 60,000-seater stadium, located past Dagoretti Corner at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road, about 10 kilometres from Nairobi’s Central Business District, will be one of the key venues for the tournament.

Once complete, Talanta Stadium will complement other major venues, including the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, which also seats 60,000 and the 15,000-capacity Nyayo National Stadium.

Designed specifically for football and rugby, the new facility will not feature an athletics track, setting it apart from other traditional multipurpose stadia.

Instead, dedicated athletics fields are being developed adjacent to the venue to cater to track and field disciplines.

The project is part of Kenya’s broader AFCON 2027 preparations, jointly hosted with Uganda and Tanzania.

Kenya has pledged to meet all CAF infrastructural benchmarks ahead of the tournament, including stadium standards, training grounds, transport networks and accommodation facilities.

The Talanta Stadium project is one of several flagship sports facilities under development, reflecting the government’s push to modernise Kenya’s sporting infrastructure and position the country as a premier destination for international competitions.
