The government has disbursed 880,040 million to support vulnerable households across the country under the Inua Jamii initiative.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services through the State Department for Children Services, a total of 880,040,000 has been released to 440,020 beneficiary households under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) Programme.

The disbursement covers the September 2025 payment, with each household set to receive 2,000.

“Payment will commence tomorrow, 24th September 2025 through the contracted Payment Service Provider,” the statement noted.

The funds are meant to support the welfare of children and strengthen families’ ability to care for them.

“The CT-OVC Programme aims to encourage fostering and retention of orphans and vulnerable children within their families and communities, while promoting their human capital development,” read the statement.

The government emphasized that the cash transfer programme is a key part of its broader social protection strategy aimed at reducing poverty and vulnerability among children.

The statement added that “the programme supports increased enrolment and transition in education, improved health and nutrition outcomes, enhanced household food security, and better child protection.”

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children and promoting inclusion through continued financial and social support to needy families.

Inua Jamii is the Government of Kenya's National Safety Net Programme, which provides regular bi-monthly cash stipends to vulnerable citizens, including the elderly aged 70 years and above, persons with severe disabilities, and orphans and vulnerable children.

The programme aims to improve the welfare of poor and vulnerable households and has recently transitioned its payment system to a more accessible mobile platform, mainly through M-Pesa via the e-Citizen platform.

The Government of Kenya has consistently maintained the release of Inua Jamii funds every month. In August, the government disbursed 881 million for the August 2025 cycle of the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) programme under the same initiative.

In a press statement dated September 29, 2025, the Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services, through the State Department for Children Services, confirmed the release of 881,074,000 to support 440,537 households enrolled in the CT-OVC programme.

According to the Ministry, the programme aims to “encourage fostering and retention of orphans and vulnerable children within their families and communities, while promoting their human capital development.”

The CT-OVC specifically targets orphans and vulnerable children, providing financial support to enable their care and integration within families and communities.

CPA Carren Agengo, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Children Services, said the initiative remains one of the government’s most impactful social safety programmes designed to improve the lives of vulnerable children and their caregivers.
