The victims, a man and his son, died in their house on Wednesday afternoon when the explosive went off, police said.

Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo cautioned residents against tampering with suspicious devices resembling explosives, such as grenades.

He urged members of the public to immediately alert the police or security agencies if they come across such objects.

The source of the grenade is yet to be known. It is believed the victims collected the device from a field in the area.

Such explosives are common in the area and are believed to be from government agencies training there.
