Shock and grief have engulfed Konoin Subcounty in Bomet after the body of Edward Too was found in the river following a search for him.

The deceased was the Deputy Principal of Kapkilaibei Secondary School, and his body was discovered floating on River Itare on Tuesday afternoon.

Confirming the incident, Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga said the 49-year-old teacher’s body was found near the River Itare bridge, about eight kilometres east of Konoin Police Station.

According to a police report filed under OB18/21/10/2025 at 12:38 pm, Koiwa Location Chief Emily Koech notified the police after spotting the body floating downstream. 

Officers from Konoin Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Konoin, visited the scene to retrieve the body.

 Imbwaga said the body was retrieved and positively identified as that of Too who is a resident of Chongweno Location within Konoin Subcounty.

“The deceased had been missing since Saturday, October 18, 2025, according to initial reports from the family,” Imbwaga said.

The wife of the deceased Sarah Too, had reported the matter at Konoin Police Station after her husband went missing suddenly.

The police boss said the body of the deceased had no visible injuries when it was retrieved from the river.

DCI scene of crime officers photographed and documented the body and the area where it was found before moving the body to Kapkatet Subcounty Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy.

Imbwaga said DCI officers from Konoin have already launched investigations to determine the exact cause of death.

“Our officers are on the matter to investigate and establish what happened leading to the death of the teacher,” Imbwaga said.

Bomet KUPPET Branch Vice Chairman  Peter Bett urged the DCI to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the teacher’s death. 

He described the late Too as a committed educator who had greatly contributed to academic excellence at Kapkilaibei Secondary School.
