Preparations
are in top gear at Parliament Buildings ahead of the arrival of the body of the
late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as Kenyans pour into the capital to
pay their last respects.
By early morning, crowds of mourners
had already gathered outside Parliament to pay their last respects.
The atmosphere was heavy with
sorrow.
Long queues stretched along City
Hall Way, snaking past City Hall and toward Parliament Road.
Security around Parliament has been
heightened.
Parliament Road has been declared a
no-go zone as police officers maintain order amid the swelling crowd.
A security checkpoint tent has been
erected near the Senate gate, where mourners are screened before entering to
view the body.
Inside the Parliament compound,
workers and military personnel made final preparations for the public viewing.
The national flag flies at
half-mast, and the atmosphere is one of solemn dignity as the nation braces for
a historic moment of farewell.
Raila’s body is expected at Parliament Buildings from noon to 5 pm, allowing Kenyans to pay their final respects to the man many called “Baba.”
