The Kenya
Defence Forces (KDF) on Thursday morning staged a meticulously organized
reception at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of the
arrival of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga’s body.
The military display, marked by precision and solemnity, reflected the full honors accorded to a statesman of Raila’s stature.
Officers in full ceremonial uniform lined up
at the airport, their formations perfectly coordinated as they awaited the
Kenya Airways flight bearing Raila’s remains from India.

A military
band was already in position, rehearsing soft dirges that filled the air with
an air of national mourning.
Nearby, a
gun carriage, polished and draped in the national colors, stood ready to carry
the casket bearing the body of the veteran leader once it arrives.
According to officials, the Kenya Airways flight RAO001, which was assigned a special call sign in Raila’s honor, is expected to touch down at 9:30 a.m.

The call
sign, derived from Raila’s initials, was adopted as a symbolic gesture to
celebrate his lifelong service to Kenya.
President
William Ruto is expected to lead senior government officials, military chiefs,
and Raila’s family in receiving the body at the airport. Members of the
opposition and diplomatic corps have also been invited to witness the brief but
historic ceremony.

with rehearsals conducted since early morning to ensure flawless execution.
Security at
JKIA and surrounding areas has been heightened, with both military and police
officers maintaining tight coordination.
