The slain State House GSU officer died from excessive bleeding, an autopsy conducted on his body showed.
The autopsy on the body of Ramadhan Khamis Matanka showed that an arrow that had been shot went through the left 7th and 8th rib, then went through the left lung, and it also punctured the heart.
The exercise was conducted at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary in the presence of the family and police.
Ramadhan was buried in Kajiado county.
A group of human rights activists who were present demanded justice for the killing.
The suspect, Kithuka Musyimi, appeared before the Kibra Law Courts on Tuesday, where police sought to detain him for 14 days to allow further investigations.
He is facing charges of targeting the security officer attached to General Service Unit (GSU) manning State House Gate D along Dennis Pritt Road in what prosecutors described as an unusual and deadly assault.
According to court documents filed by the investigating officer, Inspector Bashir Boya, Musyimi was armed with a bow and arrow.
"The respondent, who was armed with a bow and arrows that he had concealed in a blue sack, posing as a street dweller, advanced towards the GSU officer manning the search barrier, one Ramadhan Khamisi," court documents state.
“He threw two spears; the second one got to the officer Ramadhan, after which they were able to apprehend the suspect,” Boya testified.
The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life.
The court further heard that key investigations are still pending.
It is on this basis that the prosecution sought 14 custodial days to advance their probe.
This includes the retrieval of CCTV footage, a mental assessment of the suspect, forensic analysis of the recovered spears, and scrutiny of the suspect’s phone records to establish whether he acted alone or had accomplices.
The motive of the incident also remains unknown at the time.
The court directed that the suspect be held until October 28, 2025, while investigations continue.
Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi further ordered that Musyimi, who told the court he had an issue with his leg, be taken to Mbagathi Hospital for medical treatment.
Notably, drawing attention was his physical condition. The suspect appeared frail and was visibly limping as he was escorted to the courtroom.
The court also clarified that his family or counsel would be allowed access to him during the detention period. Police had earlier revealed that the man claimed to have been sent by Satan to attack the officer.
“This man claims he was sent by Satan to attack the police officer. He killed him, and he is lucky to be alive himself,” said an officer aware of the developments.
The suspect told police he walked to the area as directed by Satan. He travelled from his Mwingi in Kitui County home with the mission.
But when he arrived at the scene, which was outside Gate D at the official residence of President William Ruto, at about 8.15 am, he was carrying a sack and covered by a piece of shuka.
Police say he engaged the three security officers attached to the GSU’s G Company, which protects State House and all State Lodges, seeking to get into State House.
He was denied entry and told to seek an appointment.
The officers were not suspicious that he was carrying the weapons.
Security cameras captured the drama, which lasted about 15 minutes, and showed the officers directing him to leave the scene.
He then went behind a flower and removed his arrow and bow before he aimed at Matanka.
This was as the officer and his colleagues were busy engaging occupants of a car that had arrived at the site.
The footage showed Matanka falling backwards after being hit.
He bled as the other colleagues rushed to help him. The assailant tried to escape but tripped and fell down before the other GSU officers rushed to subdue him with his weapons.
The incident happened as the slain officer and two others were inspecting a car that had two occupants ready to drive to State House.
President Ruto was then in State House, preparing to leave for Konza City for an event. Matanka was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospita,l where he was pronounced dead while being attended to.
Police were grilling the suspect further to get more information on the murder. They wanted to know his background.
He was taken to hospital for psychiatric tests and an injury he said he sustained on his left leg.
The incident came hours after another GSU officer was strangled and drowned near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after an altercation with a man. The assailant was arrested following the Sunday, October 12, 202,5 incident.
The slain officer was manning the JKIA fence when the incident happened. State House and state lodges are guarded by the officers drawn from GSU’s G-Company.
The team also guards the president's homes and other premises.
The president also has the Presidential Escort Unit, which is a fully-fledged team that can handle the movement of the President and his family anytime.
