The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced a reduction in rainfall in the latest weather review.

According to the department, some areas will receive reduced rainfall between October 7 to 13, 2025.

Kenya Met said rainfall amounts are expected to reduce slightly this week. However, rainfall is still likely to occur in several parts of the country.

They include the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coastal region, the South-eastern Lowlands  and Western and North-eastern Kenya.

Kenya Met said daytime (maximum) temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected over parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.

According to them, night-time (minimum) temperatures of below 10°C may be experienced in some areas of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley and regions near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Kenya Met further reviewed the weather for September 29 to October 5, recorded in several parts of the country, particularly over the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, and Western Kenya.

According to the Department Ndune Rainfall Station (Embu County) recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall amount of 68.3 mm on October 3, 2025.

Kenya Met said Mandera Meteorological Station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of 38.9°C on September 29, 2025.

Nyahururu Meteorological Station recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature of 7.6°C on the same day.

In its weekly weather outlook covering September 30 to October 6, 2025, the department had predicted rainfall across several regions despite prevailing dry and sunny conditions at the time.

However, rainfall was expected in several regions, particularly the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and parts of North-western Kenya. Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur in some areas within these zones.

Pockets of rainfall were expected in specific regions, with isolated heavy showers likely in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and North-western Kenya.

According to the detailed regional forecast, counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley—including Kakamega, Bungoma, Kericho, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu— were likely to receive morning rains in a few places.

In North-western Kenya, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, morning rains and scattered afternoon and night thunderstorms are likely to occur in a few places.

Meanwhile, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, and Nairobi, were predicted to experience occasional morning cloudiness followed by sunny intervals.

Afternoon showers were expected in a few areas during the first half of the forecast period, increasing to several places later in the week. Nights were expected to be partly cloudy, with a chance of showers in isolated areas.

Senior Counsel Paul Muite has commended the Kenya Meteorological Department for its timely and accurate weather forecasts, saying the agency’s recent reports have proven vital as rains pound various parts of the country.
