President William Ruto on Thursday morning hosted the Kenyan team to Tokyo for the World Athletics Championships at State House for breakfast.

The President congratulated them on the stellar performance.

Kenya won a total of 11 medals, including seven gold medals, two silver, and two bronze, at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

During the event, he also announced that just as the government did to the Harambee Stars players following their good performance at CHAN, each of the seven medalists will also get houses under the affordable housing programme (AHP).

He said the government will pay half of the amount for the houses in locations of their choice.

“You choose the house, we pay for you half, you pay another half,” he said.

He clarified that the houses are not being dished out for free, as has been interpreted by critics, for whatever consideration, noting each of the houses must be paid for.
