Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh receives the award from President William Ruto during the event/PCS

President William Ruto has conferred a prestigious award to the Commissioner General of Prisons, Patrick Aranduh, after the Kenya Prisons Service emerged as the overall winner at the farm and dairy exhibition.

The Service was honored with the Sir George McKenzie Perpetual Cup, having gained the highest number of coins during the highly competitive exhibition at the ongoing Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF).

The award marks a historic achievement for the Prisons Service, which has steadily distinguished itself in the agricultural sector through innovation, sustainability, and modern farming techniques.

According to Ruto, the recognition is not only a testament to the commitment of the officers and inmates but also a clear demonstration that correctional institutions can play a central role in supporting national development goals.

“This recognition is a symbol of the transformative journey that the Kenya Prisons Service has undertaken,” Ruto said.

“It proves that through discipline, innovation, and resilience, we can achieve both rehabilitation and sustainable food security.”

The farm and dairy Exhibition, which is part of the NITF at the Jamhuri ASK Showground, brought together a wide range of exhibitors from across the country, showcasing cutting-edge agricultural practices and products.

The Prisons Service stood out for its model farms, value addition projects, and demonstration of how rehabilitation programs can be effectively integrated with modern agriculture.

Aranduh, who received the award on behalf of the Service, dedicated the victory to prison staff and inmates across the country who have embraced farming as part of their rehabilitation and skills development journey.

He noted that the initiative has not only improved prison food self-sufficiency but also produced quality products that contribute to the wider agricultural economy.

Visitors to the Nairobi International Trade Fair have been invited to tour the farm and dairy exhibition pavilion at the Jamhuri ASK Showground, where the Prisons Service is showcasing its outstanding innovations, products, and skills.

This year’s Nairobi trade fair theme is “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.”

It will happen from September 29 to October 5.

The exhibition has attracted over 300 participants from diverse sectors, including international exhibitors from China, India, Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, Canada, and Nigeria.

The Nairobi fair remains one of the region’s largest platforms for showcasing innovations in agriculture, livestock, agribusiness, and trade.

It has been hosted by the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) since 1902.
