Police are investigating an incident where a man who was reported missing in Kiirua, Meru county, was found dead in a forest.

Police said the body of Samuel Gikunda was found in Michene forest three days after he went missing in the area.

He had fought with a known assailant in a land dispute, police said.

Police who visited the scene said the body had a rubber cord tied around its neck and the body was wrapped in a polythene paper.

The body had decomposed when it was discovered on Tuesday, police said adding it had multiple deep cuts on the head.

It was found lying in a ditch and later moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Police said they arrested a suspect in the murder and would be grilled for more information.

Elsewhere, a 24-year-old woman was brutally murdered and her body left in a rental house in Tipis Town, Mau Narok, Nakuru county.

The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said.

The body of the woman identified as Risper Chepkurui, who was a casual worker in the area, was found sprawled in her house long after her murder.

Her husband and her two-year-old baby boy were missing when the body was found on September 29, 2025, police said.

The house where the body was found had blood stains, and there were indications of struggle that led to the murder.

Police said they are looking for the husband as a person of interest in the murder.

Police said the walls of the house were full of blood stains, and it is suspected that the assailant hit the head of the victim against the walls, occasioning the death.

The body of the woman was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said.

In Kitale Town, a body of a man was found in a maize plantation following a confrontation.

The man was aged about 41, police said, adding the body had injuries on the head, abdomen and chest.

The attackers dragged and later dumped the body in the plantation.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy.

Police said they are investigating the September 30 murder to establish the motive.

No arrest has been made so far, and efforts to crack the matter were ongoing on Wednesday.

Murder cases have been on the rise amid efforts to solve them, police say.
